I found the thread about grief particularly moving. toxic friendships, a mansion on a lake, summer storms, backstabbing and dead parents and ruthless girls. Everything comes together in a heady blur. It takes a while to unfurl, but when the third act hit, my jaw was on the floor. The Cloisters is definitely a slow burn suspense novel. This isn't a traditional dark academia in that the setting is in the professional world, but it hits those notes well with the characters and the ruthlessness of the world. Deeply flawed characters making the wrong choices, but they feel oh so right. It's dark and messed up in exactly the way I like in a suspense novel. This isn't a traditional dark academia in that the setting is in the professional world, That ENDING. 1 of 5 stars 2 of 5 stars 3 of 5 stars 4 of 5 stars 5 of 5 stars
